Yesterday, Generation Opportunity’s Carrie Sheffield spoke at a press conference alongside Senators Dean Heller (R-NV), David Perdue (R-GA) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) along with a handful of free market-allies to discuss why the Senate must pass tax reform.
The Senate is moving closer to a vote on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, a bill that will help fix an economy that is often rigged against our generation. In its current form, the legislation would make significant strides to root out corporate welfare and restore fairness to the tax code for every American – especially young people.
Sheffield spoke about how tax reform will improve the lives of young Americans by helping unleash economic growth and opportunity.
“Millennials – we have created the most innovative and entrepreneurial class ever seen in human history. We’ve created innovations like Airbnb, like Uber, and like Facebook. We created all these things to make life better for everyone. These tax reforms will create more revenue, more growth and more opportunity for everyone – especially for my generation.”
As it stands, the American tax system is set to benefit well-connected special interests over younger Americans. Though it isn’t a perfect bill, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will help fuel job growth, higher wages and more financial security for young people looking to start businesses and find gainful employment.
